I talk about fitness all the time, but fitness isn’t one habit. It’s a collection of small habits stacked together over time.
If I had to pick one habit that improved my life the most, it would be zooming out.
What do I mean by that?
When something happens that would have triggered me with anger years ago, I don’t react right away. I let myself feel the emotion first. I believe emotions are trying to tell us something. If I’m upset, I ask myself what I expected from the situation that I didn’t receive.
If I still don’t understand it, I zoom out a little.
I try to see the situation from the other person’s perspective. I imagine different possibilities. Maybe they were stressed. Maybe they misunderstood me. Maybe they were carrying something I know nothing about.
If I’m still holding onto it, I zoom out even farther, far enough that I can’t even see my own ego in the picture anymore.
That’s usually when everything starts clicking.
I realize they could be coming from a hundred different places. Their opinion, their reaction, or their final verdict doesn’t have to define me.
Then I let it go.
It doesn’t have to hurt me.
The bigger the picture becomes, the clearer my priorities become.
Imagine the view from a tree branch. Then from a rooftop. Then from a hot air balloon. Then from a satellite.
What seemed overwhelming gets a little smaller.
Maybe that’s why I call my business IntraConversions.
The more we zoom out, the closer we look together.
Until next time,
Thank you,
JR
