Introduction:
I work as a material handler. On the surface, it’s a straightforward job. I handle materials. I move big heavy boxes from here to there. I load them, unload them, stack, and unstack them. It’s a physical job, and honestly, before my spiritual and physical journey, I probably would have hated it. In the early days, I sort of did. But over the last four years, my enthusiasm for life and the experiences it offers totally changed that. I started to have fun—all the time. Whether I’m at work or home, I’m enjoying myself.
Through this journey, I discovered that I genuinely like activity. I like moving all day long. So much so that I’ve even found ways to move more while on the job. Where we have machines like forklifts and motorized pallet jacks, I see calorie thieves. I want to burn every calorie I can while I’m at work. I now view my job as getting paid to work out.
The Physical Side of Work: Turning a Job into a Workout
My job, which could be viewed as draining by others, is actually a workout for me. I get to move constantly, lifting boxes, walking across the warehouse, and stacking pallets. Some might think the machines we use save time. However, I see them as taking away opportunities to move my body. I deliberately avoid using the forklifts when I can, preferring to push and carry loads myself.

A lot of times, when there’s a big pile of work to be done, people groan—but I get excited. I know that big pile means I’m going to burn it up that day. It’s like I get paid to hit the gym. When I see a pallet stacked poorly, I enter 3D Tetris mode. I then reorganize it, making it hold more and look better. I’m constantly on the move, even finding ways to make my work fun. I do behind-the-back passes with the pallet jack, spin moves down the aisle, running, skipping—you name it. I enjoy finding my groove, a steady pace, and rhythm that keeps the energy flowing.
The Mental Shift: Embracing Abundance and Fun
At the beginning, I saw the job as something I had to do to pay bills. But my mental shift over the last few years has completely transformed that. I no longer view it as something that drains me but something that fuels me.
I’ve found that everything in life is about how you look at it. Instead of seeing a pile of work as something overwhelming, I see abundance. I feel the abundance of health in my body as I move. I see the abundance of wealth as all this merchandise passes through my hands. Being part of this abundance gets me even more excited. My body is healthy and strong. I move it every day. This keeps me fit and energized. This simple shift in how I look at my job changed everything for me.
Finding Your Groove: Energy in Motion
One of the keys to finding joy in physical work, for me, is getting into a good rhythm. When I find my groove, the energy just flows. It’s not something that gets spent—it replenishes itself. I get into a steady pace where I’m moving boxes, stacking pallets, and the workday flies by. While others might feel like the day is dragging on and the workload is wearing them down, I feel energized. The more I move, the better I feel.
Especially after Thanksgiving, when the workload increases for the holiday season, I see it as an opportunity. Some people view it as a time to bulk up with all the extra food and stress. In contrast, I view it as a chance to get leaner. I burn more calories than ever during those busy months, and I love it.
Setting Intentions for Joy:
What really makes this work for me is setting the intention to have fun. I’ve realized you can choose to enjoy your life, no matter what you’re doing. If you’re going to go to work every day, you might as well enjoy it. If you’re going to work out, why not have fun while doing it?
The key is to practice setting your intentions. Sometimes, I’ll set mine the night before. I prepare myself to go in with a good attitude. I get ready to have fun. Over time, this became a habit. Now, no matter where I am or what I’m doing, I choose to enjoy myself. You can decide to be happy—it’s something you can practice and improve over time.
Conclusion:
At the end of the day, it’s all about attitude. You’re going to spend a lot of your life at work, so why not enjoy it? When you set the right intentions and approach things with the mindset of having fun, life becomes much more fulfilling. My job, which could easily be seen as exhausting, is now a daily workout that keeps me healthy and fit. More importantly, it’s something I truly enjoy.
So, the next time you’re faced with something that feels like a chore, remember this. You can choose a different perspective. You can decide to have fun. Embrace the moment and enjoy the experience. Happiness is something you can practice, and it all starts with setting your intentions.
